Audio text

Welcome to the room of the Cachaceros.

In this room we find one of the most representative cuadrillas of San Martín.

The masks and costumes of the Cachaceros incorporate natural elements; skins, seeds, fibers, ashes, bones and shells give an almost magical shape to beings of a visual presence that bewitches, linking theatrical tradition with cultural and territorial resistance.

Their presence evokes Afro-descendant memories, bonds with the land, the struggle for dignity, and that desire for freedom that never disappears: each material speaks of body, wilderness, humor, tension and transformation.

In this room, tradition becomes mask, sound and earth.

Piece in the room

Each piece has a short descriptive audio. The extended file and 3D model will be published once the curatorial team delivers them.

Cachaceros Room

Cachacero Mask Wall

Short descriptive audio

This wall brings together different masks of the Cachaceros.

Each one has its own shape, expression and strength. Some look like animals of the wilderness; others, presences born of earth, fiber, bone, ash and popular imagination.

The mask does not merely hide a face: it turns the cuadrillero into a character, into memory and into a stage presence.

Seeing them together, we understand that there is no single way of being a Cachacero. Each mask holds a story, a hand that made it and a different way of appearing in the plaza.
